Getting There

Beppu is well connected to the rest of Kyushu by the JR network. From Fukuoka (Hakata station), 2.5h from fukuoka by limited express. A JR Kyushu Rail Pass will cover this journey and is the most cost-effective option for visitors spending more than 3 days on the island.

When to Visit Beppu

The best time to visit Beppu is Year-round (winter especially atmospheric). Spring (late March to May) brings cherry blossoms and mild temperatures, while autumn (October to November) offers spectacular foliage. Summer is hot and humid, and July–September can see typhoons. Winter is mild compared to Honshu and can be a great time to enjoy hot springs.
