About Miyazaki

Where Japan's gods are said to have descended from heaven, Miyazaki dazzles with the jungle gorge of Takachiho, Aoshima's ocean torii gate surrounded by wave-carved rocks, and the wild Nichinan coastline. It is Kyushu's sunniest and most subtropical destination.

Top Highlights

  • Takachiho Gorge & rowing boats
  • Aoshima Island torii gate
  • Nichinan Coastline
  • Kirishima-Kinkowan National Park
  • Udo Shrine (sea-cliff cave)

Getting There

Miyazaki is well connected to the rest of Kyushu by the JR network. From Fukuoka (Hakata station), 1.5h from fukuoka by plane, 3h by train. A JR Kyushu Rail Pass will cover this journey and is the most cost-effective option for visitors spending more than 3 days on the island.

When to Visit Miyazaki

The best time to visit Miyazaki is April–June, October–November. Spring (late March to May) brings cherry blossoms and mild temperatures, while autumn (October to November) offers spectacular foliage. Summer is hot and humid, and July–September can see typhoons. Winter is mild compared to Honshu and can be a great time to enjoy hot springs.
